The Platinum Jubilee Celebration of St. Lawrence High School was celebrated with great enthusiasm and exuberance, which marked a historic moment in the history of St. Lawrence High School. The School is now seventy five years young. The Light which Fr. Lawrence Rodrigues, SJ had lit several years ago is still burning.
It was a day to remember very fondly and gratefully those marvellous Jesuits and teachers who had been instrumental in shaping this great institution. The portals of this hallowed institution has been built and nurtured over the last seventy five years by the toil of numerous Jesuit fathers and dedicated teachers, past and present and above all loyal and zealous students who have been committed to live up to our moto ‘For God and Country’. The seventy five years of Lawrencian journey is a one of faith, hope and loving service to generations of students in our city Kolkata.
On this auspicious and special occasion, the school authorities thanked God in gratitude for His constant guidance for the past seventy five years. Today to be a part of the joy and celebration was present Mr. Altamas Kabir, the Honourable Chief Justice of India as the Chief Guest, another dignitary, Mr. Arun Kumar Mitra, The Honourable Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court added happiness and joy to the celebration by his gracious presence on this jubilant occasion.
Amidst the dignitaries was also present Shri Bratya Basu, Honourable Minister of Education, Govt. WB who inspired and encouraged young minds being moulded into becoming men for others. It was a joy to have Fr. Jeyaraj Veluswamy, SJ, President of the Founder Body and the Provincial of Calcutta Jesuit Province who was appreciated for his constant support and encouragement. It is also a real pleasure to welcome Fr. Dominic Gomes the new Vicar General of The Calcutta Archdiocese to represent his Grace Archbishop Thomas D’Souza - Chief Patron of the school and Archdiocese. Former Rectors, Headmasters, Old Boys, parents, guardians and all our distinguished guests who were present were also given a warm welcome on this glorious occasion.
On this momentous occasion our former Principal Fr. Kurian Emprayil, SJ commented that to make this Jubilee a memorable event, it was time to dare to dream big and turn it into a reality. A time to think out of the box! It is time to take up the torches in our hands and fulfill the mission of reaching out to others by spreading the light of knowledge to thousands across the globe. It is time to pass on the baton to the future generation so that the fire of love, commitment and selfless service for forming ‘men for others’ is enkindled in them, which shall transform the portals of St. Lawrence into a centre of excellence and a beacon of light across the horizon.
