Feast Day Celebrations

FEAST OF ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

The feast of St. Ignatuius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus was celebrated on 31st July 2016 at St. Lawrence High School. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp by Fr. Joe D’Souza, SJ, Rector followed by Fr. Sebastian James, SJ, Principal, Mrs. Madhumita Roy Chowdhury, oldest torch bearer,  Mr. Dylan Pereira, youngest entrant and the Teacher Representative Mrs. Sharmistha Sen.

The celebration began with a fervent prayer by Fr. Rector followed by an inspiring speech on the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola by Mr. Fedel Francis Osta. We had our staff members read out passages from the Quran, Gita and the Bible, which highlighted universal brotherhood and serving each other that leads to God irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

Rev. Fr. Principal delivered a beautiful message on the life of St. Ignatius and the example which he has set for all of us to follow. The staff choir sang beautiful which made the celebration more meaningful.

This was followed by the “Prayers of the Faithful’, where staff members offered prayers for different sections of people throughout the world. The celebration ended on a good note by a melodius hymn by Mr. Dylan Pereira. A beautiful prayer was also recited which highlighted the Ignation Spirit. The prayer recited was as follows:

“Teach us, Good Lord, to serve you as you deserve,

To give, and not to count the cost,

To fight, and not to heed the wounds,

To toil, and not to seek for rest,

To labour, and not to ask for reward,

Except that of knowing that we are doing your will.”

There was a small get-together at Britto Stoa with refreshments and soft music for all the staff members of St. Lawrence High School after the Prayer Service.
